Promoting Peace through Improvisational Play
What a thrill to be a keynote speaker at the 2021 Montessori Europe Congress, presenting on the topic of improvisational play as a tool to promote peace!
At the last 'in-person' Montessori Europe Congress in 2019, in Dublin, Ireland, the keynote speaker and peace advocate, Scilla Elworthy, spoke about ways to attain peace. Her first point was the idea of self-knowledge and mastery of fear. Understanding your personal reaction when triggered with fear allows you to better manage your response, and to better find a peaceful solution.
Improvisational play can trigger fear reactions through very low-stakes play. By training the brain to approach unknown and uncomfortable scenarios with lightness and levity, we can wire it to better manage conflict and navigate toward peace.
The presentation, "Promoting Peace through Improvisational Play" starts at 3 hours and 56 minutes. (It runs for 28 minutes).
